How to Legally Stream and Podcast a Worship Service

For years churches have been streaming and podcasting the sermon.  Now many churches are taking the plunge and starting internet campus or simply streaming the entire worship service.  But streaming or podcasting is considered a broadcasting of the worship service.  The religious service performance exemption written into US copyright law does not apply to streaming or podcasting.  It’s also not covered under your CCLI license or any license you have from ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC.  If you want all the details on Copyright Issues for...

Razoo: A Fundraising Resource

Fundraising is one of the most difficult aspects of church planting.  For the most part, techniques for fundraising haven’t changed in years.   There are still a lot of stamps and letters used when fundraising. That’s why I love it when I find an easy online tool.  We communicate online today and rarely by letter.  I’m not suggesting to ditch the paper, but heres a great way to add to it and catch people that live entirely in a digital world.  The tool is called Razoo.  Razoo let’s you create a customized...

Friday Church Planting Resource: YouCanSend.me

Fundraising is tough for most people, so I love it when I find tools that make it easier.  ChurchCrunch featured this resource and I think it will work great for church planters.  In about five minutes you can set up a site complete with your picture and your story.  The page will include a Donate Now button that ties directly to PayPal.  It also has easy ways for people to share the site through Twitter, Facebook and Email.  The site shows your progress towards the goal.  It also includes a built in blogging tool so that you can...

Map Determines Where Americans Are Moving

I found this resource on JD Payne’s blog.  Big thinks for sharing.  This is a great resource for church planters who are trying to understand their communities better.  American, particularly urban ones, are very transient.  Many church planters target new growth areas of cities attempting to capitalize on this transient nature.  But did you ever wonder where are these people are coming from?  Or on the flip side, did you ever wonder where all the people are going? Now you can get a better idea.  Forbes.com has published an...

Friday Church Planting Resource: The Crossing

I love the generosity that many churches have by sharing their resources.  There are several churches sharing their graphic arts for sermon series.  The Crossing in Quincy, Il is sharing their leadership development tools.  Sonny Woolard, the multi-site director, has developed a leadership training site that’s full of gold.  Take a look and then head over Sunday morning an join them in worship on their internet campus. ...

Friday Church Planting Resource: Networks

At Stadia, we plant churches through local networks.  Much of our organizational energy goes towards forming and equipping these networks.  So what is a network?  A network is a group of churches who come together with the common goal of planting new churches.  Each network partner contributes financially to get the new church started.  But the network is much more than financial partners.  The network also forms a management team for the new church.  This team serves to assist the church planter on big decisions, hold the planter...

Chances are if you haven’t heard of the Leadership Network, you’ve come across some of their work.  They are the ones behind the online conferences like the Nines.  They also publish books by well known authors like Bob Roberts, Ed Stetzer, Dave Furgerson, Neil Cole and others.  Beyond these helpful resources, the Leadership Network also does research.  One of the best works for church planters is a research project titled Improving the Health and Survivability of New Churches. It’s a free download from their site and...

Friday Church Planting Resource: Coffee Cart

Posted by on Feb 11, 2011 in Resources | 2 comments

A planter called this week and asked what should I use for a coffee cart.  Well for years, at LifePointe we just used a table to put coffee on and stored everything in totes.  So I crowdsourced the answer to Stadia’s project management team.  Here’s one easy solution that the team came up with.  It’s a portable coffee cart from Church on Wheels.  At $575 it is really not a bad price.  I tried to find a way to build one of these with parts you could find at Home Depot but came up unsuccessful as I’m not that handy...

iPhone Keeps Record of Wrongs

Posted by on Feb 9, 2011 in Resources | 0 comments

Love keeps no record of wrongs, but apparently your iPhone does.  The Roman Catholic church has an iPhone app called Confession that allows you to keep track of all your sins.  Not only does this just feel wrong, but there’s a price tag of $1.99 for the app.  What do you think?  Is the Confessional app a good idea or bad idea? ...
